My Man can't half cook a mean Barbie! |
Truth is, this Summer has almost been none existant; not only due to the lac of sunny rays but also because of my work schedule, lack of finances due to saving and also not having a driving license as of yet.
I find it particularly difficult to stick to a healthier lifestyle when the days shorten and the bad weather triumphs. When its cold I am in what I like to call 'Hibernation Mode'; thick socks on, large mug of hotchocolate (with squirty cream ofcourse) in one hand with a freshly made hearty pie in the oven. Summer weather makes us crave fresh, light healthy options like pasta, fresh fruit, salads, chicken and BBQs (in moderation ofcourse)....but when Winter arrives that all goes out of the window and I crave one thing & one thing only.....STODGE; Belly filling, hunger satisfying stodge.
Overall, I have quickly come to realise that with the change of seasons comes a change of wardrobe AND eating habits.
Yesterday we enjoyed a delicuious family BBQ followed by hours of chat in the garden, what better way to say good-bye to Summer 2012. I love BBQs not only for the delicious mouth-watering delights it offers but also because of the social solidarity that comes with cooking (and sharing) a family meal. This is a tradition I myself would love to push and carry through into my future as I one day have my own Children. Openly, I will take this opportunity to admit that I perhaps over indulged on the meat but I successfully stayed away from the bread apart from x1 cob roll; Im cutting back today to compensate.
So here we are, I shall raise my metaphorical class, toast the end of a summer that lacked sunshine but was filled with lots of yummy culinery delights and prepare to welcome all those heartwarming wintery dishes.
I can feel it now, finding healthier alternatives to pie & mash or hotchocolate and whippy cream may just be one of my toughest challenges to date.
